Why you should have a website and domain name
Maybe you are one of the few people who actually doesn't need a website and who wouldn't benefit yourself or others by having a website, but I doubt it.
Websites are not just for corporations and businesses any more. If Jeff Bezos had felt that way, we wouldn't have Amazon.com now.
Granted, not everyone's dream will reach the pinnacle of prosperity and fame like Jeff's did, but you never know whose idea will scratch the itch of the masses and succeed.
There are also different ways to measure success.
For some, success is making money, for others, it's simply having many people view your site, and for bloggers, it's a matter of having hordes of readers gobble up your words and leave comments on your witty or irreverent ramblings. Many bloggers have achieved a moderate level of success and fame simply for posting their commentary on events and people. A blog is simply an internet word for web log, which is a comparative word for journal or diary - only it's for public view.
A good website to locate famous bloggers is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Bloggers.
Perhaps your family is spread out many miles. A gallery and forum website would be a wonderful way to keep in touch. Civic groups, Church groups, bridge clubs, you name it, a website can be of service.
Your expertise at your hobby or career could help many others who have chosen the same path, or who are exploring their options and talents.
If you have a small business, your own domain name could garnish more customers and prospects, especially if you utilize it fully by placing on your car, your stationery, in the yellow pages, on your business cards, and in local newspaper ads.
